I loved this and understand your dilemma. Don't you know any locals who could help you find somewhere and help you avoid being exploited?

Oh my, Jane, I visited one apartment in Milan as a possible home and I was shocked. It was horrible and crazy expensive. We’ve eventually settle for a small but new apartment in Bisceglie. (Pretty boring and soulless area if you asked me)

Prices are literally insane here.

Who’s your dog btw? 😍

If you need help moving, let me know! I’m becoming an expert in moving myself.

Btw, we are moving our last stuff out off Belgium to Milano this weekend.

Thanks for the offer and good luck with the final move this weekend!

Yeah prices really are a nightmare, not to mention the realtors that'll take a % of the entire first annual rent, which makes moving around for 1-2 year stays way too expensive. The most iconic (I guess?) part is that they also charge the homeowner! I've only once been to Bisceglie except for a concert, but I primarily remember it because I find it absolutely impossible to pronounce lol. And finally, a very long, very picture-saturated post about my dog is 100% coming up one of these days! He is an Amstaff and (obviously) the best boy in the whole wide world.

The realtors scams should be illegal. I realise we are very lucky with our rental (it’s without a realtor).

Can’t wait for the dog post!

I relate to this on many levels Jane. All the best with finding a workable/liveable solution. x

Sorry to hear that you're in a bit of a pickle. It happens so often that couples un-couple and one is left torn between living their best city life and, well, surviving in today's economy. Italians are not getting paid a lot, that is very true, and I don't know what tiktak all these property owners have watched but it's a full-blown scam! (is it a cartel? a monopoly? call it however you want). I recently stumbled upon a video of this initiative in Italy where families with kids gone to another city to study can make their newly empty room available for other students. The rent is obviously cheaper and people are doing it out of their blessed heart. Clearly, I forgot the name of the program, but maybe you can dig a bit and see if you're eligible?

It's probably the mafia! The initiative sounds lovely, I think especially students are really getting screwed without programs like these. I wouldn't dare take their place as a salary-earning adult. And in all honestly, I'm also not quite sure I could move back in with parents - mine or anyone else's for that matter!

The cat would be the part I'd miss most : )

Me too - and the joy of my dog having an amazing park around the corner (I can't choose a walk-in pet over my actual pet of course)! Although considering it's a cat, he'll probably do the same with the next owners here. Us humans are all just their puppets anyway, right? Let's hope they'll also have a comfy bed for him!
